In spite of its rather comical name, the website ali-aba.org is actually the official website of the non for profit educational wing of the American Law Institute (ALI), and the American Bar Association (ABA), partnered for continuing education for all lawyers. The mission of the site is to work with the various legal bar groups and associations to develop and maintain a consistent national continuing legal education (CLE) curriculum. The cooperative partnership was founded in 1947 and originally brought CLE to 44 different states by hosting live events. Over the years, ALI-ABA has moved forward with technology to offer training via recordings and cassettes, to the current technology.
Now, lawyers who visit ali-aba.org can directly access MP3 editions of CLE and also live webcasts and online courses. They also offer legal firm consulting and training designed to lead to various accreditations. Members contribute articles and opinions which can lead to future training and development courses and educational materials.
ALI-ABA has literally thousands of the country’s most successful and prominent lawyers and judges as members who contribute, write, or speak for the organization. In 2010 the group introduced the first online legal content knowledge portal. Links to the portal are found on ali-aba.org. The portal is a subscription based nexus of professional development and online education. Members have the opportunity to shop and purchase training and materials as courses offered through the website. Law firms are invited to customize the training type or focus that they prefer, and then only pay for the portion they select. There is a professional video available to explain every aspect of the portal and its use.
