The West Penn Allegheny Health System (WPAHS) gathers together some of the most renowned players in the western Pennsylvania medical scene. The WPAHS consists of two tertiary hospitals, and four community hospitals.
These hospitals serve Pittsburgh and the surrounding five states. The WPAHS site lists the medical specialties that the health professionals working at these hospitals expertise in, including cardiac surgeries, neurosurgeries and cardiac catheterization procedures. The site has information geared towards patients (such as making an appointment, insurance coverage and services), and it features a physician search tool that works by entering the physician’s last name and/or specialty. It is also possible to enter your ZIP code in order to find a physician within a certain distance, and you can also search by hospital affiliation. A health glossary provides a good overview of medical terminology, whereas a “Careers” page lets those interested browse through a listing of job openings.
