WhatsApp green screen bug hits beta

Green Bug

WhatsApp beta users are reporting a major bug that turns their screens completely green when they click on a chat or message. The issue is affecting version 2.24.24.5 of the beta app on Android devices. Users say the green screen persists until they close the WhatsApp app.

The problem does not seem to impact those using the stable version of WhatsApp. Some beta testers have tried downgrading to the stable release to fix the issue. However, a few are still encountering the green screen even after reverting to the non-beta app.

As a workaround, affected users can access WhatsApp on companion devices like laptops, tablets, or iPhones. If that fails, the last resort is to uninstall WhatsApp, back up chats to the cloud, and reinstall the latest stable version.

Meta, the company that owns WhatsApp, has not yet confirmed when a fix will be released. But an update to resolve the bug is expected soon given the high number of users impacted. Beta versions allow early access to upcoming features but also have a higher risk of glitches.

This incident serves as a reminder to be cautious about using frequently needed apps like WhatsApp in their beta form.
