Students can’t really complain. From services that describe campus life in minute detail to services that let them procure the loans and scholarships for realizing their potential, the Internet has resources beyond their wildest dreams.
The one I am analyzing right now falls into the latter category, and it is presented by a foundation that goes by the name of Vittana.
Its objective is a noble one, and I like the way they describe it themselves on their home page: “Our mission is to bring student loans to the developing world through the power of person-to-person micro-lending”.
This translates into practice a bit like this: you make a student a micro donation amounting to as much as 25 US$ trough the site. Then the student goes to School, graduates and finds a job. When that happens, he returns the 25 US$ you had contributed at the beginning.
Payments and loans are handled through a Microfinance Institution Partner in the respective country, and the students that you can support through the site have undergone an extensive checking process.
I think we will agree that the premise is a good one from the point of view of implementation, and a faultless one from a moral point of view. After all, anything that lets people realize their potential is laudable any way you look at it.
