Video messaging services like FaceTime are the coolest thing around, no doubt about it. Yet, that coolness comes at a price: you must have an iPhone or an iPad to send (and view) that kind of messages. That cuts a lot of people out. And that’s exactly what this new voicemail application is here to try and change. Vimessa lets you send out high-definition videos from any feature phone, smartphone and tablet that you use, and these can be sent straight to any email address or phone number. The people you’re messaging don’t need to have the app installed to view the video messages that you’ve sent them. In fact, they don’t even need to have to an iPhone. They can play the messages right on their desktops.
And unlike Facetime, Vimessa is focused on letting users view and reply to videos at their own pace. That is, Vimessa is more of a video messaging platform than it is of a video calling service.
iPhone users can get the Vimessa app for free. If you’re one, you can download the app, and use it at no cost (though a fee must be paid if you want to store your messages for more than two months). And support for plenty other devices is coming up next, too. Apps for iPad, Android and Windows Phone are becoming available shortly.
