Elevator Pitch

Unsplash is an amazing collection of beautiful, free stock photos.

Why We Love It

As a professional blogger, I spend a lot of time sorting through stock photos, and I have to tell you — most of them (and especially the free ones) are garbage. Like, seriously, seriously terrible. Granted, the situation has gotten much better in the five years since I started blogging, but there are still way too many cheesy stock photos out there, hurting my eyes and ruining the internet.

But not on Unsplash. I’ve loved this site since they launched. Their recent updates have made me want to share what they’re doing with you all again. While the original Unsplash was just a very basic site providing new, free, beautiful images every day, the new version has expanded to include lovely, searchable collections. The themes range from conceptual (“Pure Color”) to very specific (“Coffee Shops”). All of the photos are free to use on whatever project you want. I can personally guarantee that all of your work will look so much better than if you went with the usual crappy free options.

Now if you want to scroll through beautiful images a la old-school Unsplash, you can totally still do that too. The main page is still populated with a seemingly never ending roll of photos, and there’s also a “new” tab where you can check out the latest and greatest additions to the collection. However, I really can’t get enough of the Collections, both as a way to browse beautiful artwork and to more easily locate images for blog posts.

So stop with the overly posed, weirdly lit stock images. (No one truly believes that business man is that happy, folks.) Instead, head on over to Unsplash and make your online work that much more beautiful.
