TunnelBear Is The Cutest VPN On The Web

Today’s Killer Startup: TunnelBear

Elevator Pitch:

TunnelBear is a the cutest VPN online.

Why It’s A Killer Startup:

I don’t know if it’s the influence of traveling around Asia over the past six months or just my own natural evolution, but I’m loving cute things even more than ever these days. I mean, I’ve always loved the basic cute things like puppies and kittens, but recently I’ve been cooing and ooing over the adorableness of Tep, my fitness tracker, and the cat game Neko Atsume, which will definitely be the subject of a future Killer Startup post.

And for today’s dose of tech cuteness? TunnelBear! TunnelBear is a VPN for Android, PC, Mac, iPhone, and iPad. I have it on my iPhone because I’m in Vietnam right now, where Twitter is blocked. When I want to access Twitter on my phone, I open up TunnelBear first and tap the little Disconnected/Connected slider. Once I tell it to connect, the animated bear “digs a tunnel” over to the US, at which point my phone is browsing “from the US.” When I’m done with Twitter, I just disconnect and the bear digs a tunnel back to Vietnam!

Now, of course you can keep the bear in the US — or whichever country you choose — if you prefer. For example, if you’re not so into your data being tracked and would rather hide your IP 24/7, you can totally do that with TunnelBear. The basic version of the VPN is free, but you can also upgrade to Pro if you need a bit more data every month. If you go the paid route, TunnelBear will hardly break the bank. Their most expensive option is only $6.99 per month.

Oh, also? It’s adorable. Case closed.
