Launched earlier this month, The Root is a new online daily magazine covering all aspects of African-American life, politics, history and agenda, which aims to raise the profile of black voices in mainstream media from the US and the world. This publication belongs to the Washington Post network, and in it users will be able to find lots of multimedia news, opinion and features, like that covering the presidential campaign, the African-American sports, culture and arts scene, plus lots of international news.
The site hosts and links to leading blogs kept by staff and independent writers, as well as a very comprehensive section on tracing one’s ancestry and roots, including very interesting and enlightening video testimonials, plus information on what DNA tests can and cannot reveal. Quite strikingly, there are no RSS feeds to subscribe to.
