Do we need alternatives to the Internet Movie Database? If they are really, really good then maybe yes. But we surely have no time for inferior takes on the service. Which (quite unfortunately) is what this new site stands for: an inferior repository of movie-related information.
Theaterex brings together information on all the latest movies such as tweets, images and trailers, and presents that using a rustic layout. The information itself is nothing extraordinary, for the mere reason that it is a cut-and-paste affair all around. Yet, what really breaks the site into a million shards is the way movies are introduced.
You see, each movie that is featured on this site has short introduction that is read to you. That would be quite interesting if the voice chosen for the readout were slightly human. As it stands, the first thing you will think as the voce begins playing is that the Daleks are back with a vengeance, and you will pray for the fabled Dr. Who to come thundering from the sky to dispel the menace yet again.
I wish the above were an exaggeration, but I am sorely afraid to report it is nothing but the truth. You can check the site yourself by clicking on the link provided below if you refuse to believe it. I hope your eardrums survive the experience…
Theaterex.com In Their Own Words
Hear about your movies.
Why Theaterex.com It Might Be A Killer
The idea of having movie summaries read out is not bad. If they can get a voice that sounds remotely human to do so, then that would be the start of something better.
