As virtually everybody knows after having watched The Social Network, Facebook was originally devised as a site which was to be used by students only. The network was to evolve into the all-encompassing behemoth that we all know and use extensively nowadays, and the educational facet was all but displaced.
But if you look back on it all, the idea from which Facebook germinated (that of letting only students become connected) still stands as an appealing one. As a result, sites like Students Circle are released every now and then. None of them have been adopted massively yet, and it must be said that Students Circle is not really distinctive in terms of features. These sites basically let students do the same number of things: they can join study groups, they learn about campuses in other parts of the world, they can learn about scholarships… These are actually pivotal services, so there is nothing to complain about here. And something really commendable: Students Circle has over 10,000 free courses that anybody, anywhere can take.
So, has this site got what it takes to become the hub for all students globally that it hopes to become? That is up to the users to determine. But it is certainly in the running.
