START MOBILE wants to bring hip, original artwork to the world of cell phones. It claims to be the first retail art gallery in the world to sell new art for cell phones.
The premise is to make avante-garde art accessible and visible to everyone. The art comes from a new gallery of underground artists in San Francisco who aim to popularize art outside of the pretentious art world. Each piece of art purchased for your phone will show up on your phone bill, for a $1.99 fee. Right now, T-Mobile, Cingular, and AT&T are the only cell phone carriers that allow a third-party to deliver content to their phones. They company also allows artists to submit their art for consideration, following their spirit of sharing and publicizing new artists. Overall, the idea is great and the art is funky and hip. Hopefully, Verizon and other cell phone carriers will allow their customers to use this cool site.
