The Social Security Administration (SSA) is preparing to distribute a monthly benefit of $943 to eligible recipients. The payout aims to support senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, and families who lost wage earners, setting one step forward in the commitment towards society’s vulnerable citizens.
Though the amount disbursed may differ according to the recipient’s income, age, and work history, the SSA processes applications continuously and encourages eligible parties to apply as soon as possible.
For 2024, the highest monthly Supplemental Security Income (SSI) award is set at $943, with eligible couples receiving up to $1,415. This benefit is designed to aid individuals with disabilities, as well as those aged 65 and above. It’s crucial to provide accurate information during the application process and stay informed about changes in eligibility criteria and aid amount.
Payments are generally distributed on the first day of each month unless it falls on a Friday or a public holiday.
SSA ups monthly benefit for vulnerable citizens
In those cases, the SSA follows a distinct payment plan, with the payment day dependent on the beneficiary’s birthdate. However, SSI beneficiaries receive their regular payments on July 1 each year.
Remarkably, SSA data indicated that 11% of total benefits distributed in 2023 went to disabled workers and their dependents. In case of payment delays, beneficiaries are advised to wait three days before contacting SSA.
In a noteworthy turn of events, the SSA has removed specific outdated jobs from the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, a critical element in making decisions about benefit applications for the Security Disability Insurance (SDI) and SSI programs. This step could potentially result in a scale-back of benefits for those deemed not disabled.
