Spling lets you share links with your friends, both publicly and privately, and it also allows you to have content shared with all the contacts you have on Facebook and Twitter. And Spling has been built in a way that makes it very easy to retrace your steps, and see what you’ve shared with others in the past. That’s in direct contrast with the sharing of media on social sites like Facebook, where what you’ve shared quickly becomes drowned in a sea of updates.
Plus, by building an online archive of your favorite content Spling gets to learn from your activity. If you use the service for long enough, Spling will be able to build an online archive of your favorite content, and pick the best new links that have been shared for you.
Spling is making a deliberate move away from services such as Subjot (we reviewed it here). Sites like Subjot aim to build what can only be called an “interest graph” for the sharing of links and media. That is, instead of letting you share content with people who are your friends in the real world, they let you network with people who share your very same likes and interests.
On the downside, Spling has too many similarities with Google Plus. To be fair, Spling came with some concepts first (most notably the idea of “Circles” for the sharing of data – Spling introduced that while it was in private beta). But that matters little to the average user. He’ll just go for the service that runs faster, and feels more natural. And while that’s a matter of personal tastes, I can already tell many would pick Google Plus over Spling.
