The Social Security Death Index (SSDI) is a database provided by the United States Social Security Administration. If you are researching anybody who has died, this is the place where you can find all the information.
You can search more than 79 million names in the social security death index. If you want to discover your ancestors in order to build your family tree, the social security death index has details about birth, death, and last residence of them. You can search by database or state. How does it work? You can start by filling in the form located in the homepage, and clicking search. All the results will be displayed on Ancestry.com’s web site. When doing a search, do not include the middle initial because middle names were not indexed. Use only first and last names. Most of the birth dates recorded is from the early decades of the last century.
