Instant messaging clients are everywhere. You’ve probably got at least a few running on your computer at the moment.
If you’re keen on getting another, Social.im is worth checking out, especially if you’re a Facebook fan. Social.im doesn’t simply work within Facebook—it actually pulls your friends from Facebook (all of them) and carries them on board the chat client. It works only if your friends have downloaded it too (and if they have Windows, although a Mac version is promised). You’ll need to share your Facebook info to use it, but you’ll get to see your wall, new posts and messages and photos too. Try it out yourself—it’s still quite new and is know to crash, but it’s worth checking out.
Social.im In Their Own Words
“Your friends are spread across a bunch of IM networks:
Yahoo, MSN, AOL, Google, etc.
but they are all on Facebook!”
Why Social.im It Might Be A Killer
This is a clever idea. Facebook lacks a real-time chat client and posts on your wall only go so far. This could become quite popular if all the bugs are worked out.
Some Questions About Social.im
Is there any way to select which friends are added? Will any other social networks be added besides Facebook, why limit yourself after all? Will people sign up?
