Seattle Wireless is a grassroots Community Wireless Network project in Seattle, Washington. Its goals include the creation of a broadband wireless metropolitan area network, as well as the creation of tools that help them to achieve that goal.
It is a not-for-profit community of volunteers, and although they have many different motivations, they believe that ordinary people can build a network without recurrent fees that is not beholden to any commercial telecommunications provider. They are part of the global FreeNetworks movement, and are interested in creating a non recurrent cost network in the City of Seattle. Seattlewireless.net provides visitors with detailed information about the project, and invites you to participate. At the top of your screen you will find many sections, most of which are updated and modified by the project’s members. If you are interested in working towards these goals, you can contribute as much or as little as you like. Developers use wiki for communication, and have a weekly HackNight.
