Unlike Digg (which fell from grace following a particularly clumsy redesign, and never really recovered all the face it lost), Reddit has always stood as a popular way to learn about the latest news in most people’s eyes. And all that people now have got an even smoother way to get their daily dose of news there. Scrolldit lets them read all the latest content that’s featured on Reddit, only that in a completely different environment.
If you use this site, what you’re basically getting is a scrolling version of Reddit, where each new story is turned into a tile for you to click on it if it looks interesting. And the site also comes with its very own search interface, letting you specify the kind of news/media you’re after, and also whether you want to leave NSFW out of your search results.
Scrolldit works by retrieving all the newest posts from Reddit (using the JSON API), and then having them rendered using the jQuery Masonry plug-in.
To my mind, Scrolldit is truly interesting. It really changes how you look for information on Reddit. While you’ll probably end up wishing the service had a clearer set of categories, the fast way in which you can be presented with fresh content is certainly a top trade-off.
