It’s happened to you before: you’re visiting a friend in another city, or you’re on vacation, and you’re wandering around checking out the night life, and then..
its hits you. You have to pee. The restaurants frown at you when you approach them with your problem, the bars are too packed to get in, and you’re left with no where to relieve yourself. Don’t let that happen to you again; use Safe2Pee to prevent these situations. Safe2Pee is a site that shows the locations of (accessible, as in not residential) toilets in any given area. The site combines user-submitted bathroom locations, the Google Maps API and the Yahoo geocoding service into a single experience that aims to be accessible for a variety of browsing mediums. It also provides a tag cloud to visualize the hierarchy in number of bathrooms posted per city.
Safe2Pee.org In Their Own Words
Welcome to safe2pee.org. We’re taking web innovations and applying them to a very real problem facing many in our society: harassment, violence and discrimination in public restrooms.
The goal of the project is to create a resource where people who do not feel comfortable with traditional public restrooms can find safe alternatives, and to support advocacy and research to further the cause of gender free, inclusive bathrooms. The service aims to be accessible from a variety of mediums (computer, cell phone browser, maybe even a call-in number?).
Initially this service will only be available in the North America, however we hope to expand and extend our capabilities rapidly. More features and greater customization will be available very soon!
Why Safe2Pee.org It Might Be A Killer
There are plenty of uses for this site, and not just for people with bladder problems. March organizers can plan out routes for those who are anxious about finding toilets along the way, travelers can come prepared instead of hunting down available bathrooms, and nightclubbers can be sure that they only attend places with clean, usable bathrooms.
Some Questions About Safe2Pee.org
The site requires you to spend quite a bit of time looking through the reviews of toilets in order to find one. There might be a problem with people needing to find an internet cafe and spend fifteen minutes looking at the site just to learn where a bathroom is. But the site’s sense of humor is appreciated.
