Princess Zelda shines in Echoes of Wisdom

Princess Zelda takes center stage in the new game “The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.” She wields a magical wand that can create echoes of objects and enemies to help her navigate the world and fight baddies. One of the most useful echoes is the bed. Players have found that the bed can be used to scale cliffs, cross gaps, and solve puzzles in dungeons.

It gives extra height and extends out about two blocks. Beginners can stack up to three beds to get across a gap. The game encourages players to think creatively and find their own solutions to puzzles.

There are often multiple ways to solve a problem. Using the bed might be simpler, but it’s not as exciting as using newly learned echoes. If you get stuck and don’t know what to do, try using the bed.

More often than not, it can help you progress. But don’t feel like you have to use it all the time. The game is about finding your own unique solutions.

“Echoes of Wisdom” combines classic Zelda dungeon crawling with clever, open-ended problem-solving. The change in main character from Link to Zelda makes little practical difference.

Zelda’s magical echoes tested

Players can still get engrossed in the story of Zelda exploring Hyrule to seal mysterious purple rifts. Zelda fights enemies indirectly by creating echoes of defeated foes and objects. She can have multiple echoes out at once, limited by an upgradable point system.

This keeps the gameplay exciting, even if the menu for swapping echoes can get cumbersome. The game borrows the charming art style of recent Zelda remakes. It has some framerate issues, but they don’t detract too much from the experience.

Many echoes act as stand-ins for classic Zelda items, giving a sense of progression as you gain new abilities. The puzzle rooms make great use of the echo mechanic, requiring creative solutions. Combat is less impactful, as Zelda’s “Swordfighter Mode” drains energy quickly.

But the optional automaton system adds depth with buildable robots that don’t cost echo points. Side quests play a big role and provide meaningful rewards. A thorough but not 100% playthrough takes about 23 hours.

Focusing just on the main story would be quicker. Overall, “Echoes of Wisdom” is a delightful Zelda game that mixes classic elements with innovative mechanics. It’s engaging for both long-time fans and new players, even if it’s not perfect.
