Eric Migicovsky, the founder of Pebble, is bringing back the beloved e-paper display smartwatch. The new Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2 smartwatches are now available for pre-order. They closely follow the original Pebble DNA.
The Core 2 Duo costs $149 and has a black or white polycarbonate case with a 1.2-inch black and white e-paper screen. It has a battery life of 30 days, a speaker, linear actuator motor, compass, barometer, and improved buttons compared to the original Pebble 2. The more advanced Core Time 2 costs $225.
It features a touch screen, built-in speaker, 1.5-inch 64-color e-paper display, heart rate monitoring, metal casing in various colors, and a resolution of 202 DPI.
Pebble’s new smartwatch features
It also includes iPhone integration.
Pre-orders are open starting today. The Core 2 Duo will start shipping in July, while the Core Time 2 will begin shipping in December. Pebble and Core Devices products have never been direct competitors to the Apple Watch.
They focus more on long battery life and simplicity. The return of Pebble’s spirit in this new hardware is exciting for original Pebble fans. It may also reignite interest in third-party watch faces on watchOS, even for dedicated Apple Watch users.
