Oura Ring 4 fitness tracker review

Oura Ring

The Oura Ring 4 is a sleek and stylish health tracking device that has been redesigned to appeal to a broader demographic. The ring now features a brushed silver finish, making it feel more like jewelry than a fitness tracker. One of the most significant improvements in the Oura Ring 4 is the recessed sensors.

Previous versions had plastic bumps for the photoplethysmogram (PPG) sensors, which users had to align correctly. The new ring has these sensors positioned asymmetrically to measure at various tissue penetration depths, and the number of signal pathways has increased from 8 to 18. This allows the Smart Sensing algorithm to continuously adapt and take the best measurements, regardless of hand movements.

The Oura Ring 4 also offers a wider size range, from 4 to 15, making it more accessible to a larger audience.

Oura Ring 4 design improvements

The battery life has improved significantly, with the new charging dock capable of charging the ring within an hour.

During testing, the ring lasted four days with extensive physical activities before needing a recharge. The redesigned app now organizes data into three tabs: Today (daily metrics), Vitals (detailed measurements), and My Health (long-term measurements). The Timeline feature allows users to easily tag activities and spot unhealthy patterns.

The Meals feature in the Oura Labs tab uses AI to analyze meal pictures and align eating habits with the user’s chronotype, although this feature is still in development. Oura has partnered with the fertility tracking app Natural Cycles to accurately predict periods, complementing the ring’s other health tracking features. The Oura Ring 4’s improved design and enhanced features make it a compelling choice for those looking for a stylish and accurate health tracking device that can be worn long-term.
