While not officially yet released, OpenOffice 3 has some delectable treats in store. For those of you not familiar with it, OpenOffice is the free and open source version of Microsoft’s Office software package.
It’s drawn a great many fans and some even claim that OpenOffice would beat Word anytime should it ever come to blows. It’s currently in V.2 release and the third version of OpenOffice is not due until sometime in September, but they’ve given us a sneak peak. From the looks of it, there’s a lot to look forward to. One of the new features is a hybrid PDF which would let users save a document as a PDF or edit it as an OpenDocument file. It’ll also have support for Microsoft 2007 files. A lot of the other fixes are cosmetic or interface related. It should be promising.
