OpenAI has made its ChatGPT desktop app available to all users, including those on the free tier.

The app, which was launched a month ago, can now be downloaded from the Microsoft Store for Windows 10 and 11 users. To get started, users can search for the Windows version of ChatGPT under Desktop applications in the Microsoft Store and download the program.

After running the ChatGPT Installer.exe file and completing the installation, users will be prompted to sign up or log in with their ChatGPT account. The app works seamlessly with both subscriber and free-tier accounts. The Windows app offers the same functionality as the ChatGPT website, allowing users to submit requests and ask questions.

Paid subscribers have access to voice mode, enabling natural conversations with the AI. As a special introductory offer, free users can also access voice mode for a limited time each month.

One of the app’s key features is its synchronization with the user’s ChatGPT activity across devices. This means that conversations and past chats can be accessed from the desktop app, mobile app, or website. The app also supports various keyboard shortcuts, which can be found by clicking the question mark icon in the lower right corner and selecting Keyboard shortcuts.

For added convenience, users can add the ChatGPT program to their desktop or Taskbar for quick access, eliminating the need to open a browser whenever they have a question. OpenAI is also making progress with the ChatGPT app for macOS. A new beta version allows ChatGPT Plus and Team users to instruct the AI to examine content in coding apps, assisting them in their work.

The expansion of the ChatGPT Windows app to free-tier users makes the AI more accessible and convenient for a wider audience. With features like voice mode, cross-device synchronization, and helpful keyboard shortcuts, interacting with ChatGPT has become even more user-friendly.
