Nikon introduces their latest Nikon Nikkor Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR zoom lens, specifically designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras.

Perfect for many photography styles, from travel to sports and backyard wildlife, this lens brings 14.2 times zoom range versatility to the table. It features an optical formula with 24 elements in 18 groups, including ED and aspherical elements. Maximizing image quality throughout the zoom range, convenience in capturing sharp images is guaranteed with its multiple focus modes, including the full-time manual focus and the Vibration Reduction (VR) system.

This dust and drip-resistant lens is a solid partner in outdoor scenarios. Nikon Inc. President Naoki Onozato emphasizes its groundbreaking impact. Despite its substantial zoom range, it weighs only 725 grams, making it the lightest full-frame lens with over ten times zoom ratio. Some of its impressive feats include delivering ultra-sharp images, withstanding professional photography rigors, and focusing as close as 0.35 meters.

The lens is built with a structure of 21 elements across 15 groups, integrated with four Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass elements, and three aspherical elements.

Along with its STM system, image quality enhancement is assured. Adding depth to photos is a breeze with its nine-blade aperture contributing to smooth bokeh.

The lens makes use of an optical image stabilization system, providing up to five stops of shake correction. Beneficial in low light conditions, it effectively reduces blur caused by camera shake, even supporting auto tripod detection.

Despite not being in Nikon’s professional grade S-series, the lens assures durability against dust and moisture. Its Multi-Layer Coating enhances image quality by reducing lens flare and ghosting, resulting in sharp and contrast-rich photos. The built-in Vibration Reduction (VR) ensures image precision, even when shooting at maximum zoom range.

The Nikkor Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR lens is set to hit the market by mid-April, with a retail price of $1,299.95. Although its f/8 aperture at 400mm might not be ideal for indoor or low-light wildlife photography, it remains a promising addition to any Nikon Z photographer’s gear. Despite limitations in low-light scenarios, this lens shows high promise in delivering top-notch images under a myriad of shooting conditions.
