National Banana could be thought as of the younger, less seasoned and less well-off cousin of Funny or Die. Whereas the latter started off with the huge viral hit ‘LandLord’ starring who else but Will Ferrell, National Banana features unknowns doing two bit parodies of soap operas and celebrity hedonism.
There’s a serial titled ‘The Sands of Passion’ which they’ve described as the ‘Al Qaeda Soap Opera’. They’ve done their own take on ‘Girls Gone Wild,’ in which the girls aren’t so wild, but make up for it with their semi-violent screeds against the film-maker. National Comedy is new and it shows it. The video selection is still rather limited but it’s got mass appeal: teenaged pranks, sex fetishes, politics, and Paris Hilton. The company plays its content on Podtech’s player which can be embedded into blogs or shared via email.
