If there is one hard fact about the mass media and the information it presents, is that everyone agrees that it’s biased. Now, the issue is that nobody can seem to come to terms to which side the bias actually is: the liberals are dead-certain that the bias is towards conservatism, while conservatives think it’s towards the liberal point of view.
MRCaction.org, online home of the Media Research Center, belongs to this last group of convictions, and as such actively campaigns to generate awareness and fight bias through a variety of informative articles, opinion columns and links to what they deem unbiased sources of information. But it’s not all talk here, as the site presents a series of projects which aim to empower the spectator and common citizen to take action towards a more objective presentation of information, which include signing petitions and directly informing the main information outlets on their bias problems. Interestingly, the site offers a variety of white papers and research projects dealing with the problem of information in the era of information, which can be downloaded in PDF format and which will definitely be of lots of help for all of those involved in media studies, and for those who are concerned about the quality of information out TVs and the internet are feeding us with.
