In 1965, in recognition of the enormous advances in the College’s commitment to scientific and humanistic research, the thirty-ninth legislative assembly of the state of Montana changed Montana State College’s name to Montana State University. After a long trajectory that started back in 1893, today after all that efforts and achievements MSU was ranked #5 on Outside magazine’s list of the 40 best college towns in 2003.
