Marvel Snap’s latest update to its pool of cards is receiving backlash from the community. The update affects how difficult or expensive it is to obtain certain cards. Cards in Marvel Snap are sorted into different Series, numbered one through five.
Series Five cards are the rarest and usually most powerful. Periodic Series Drops allow cards to move from Series Five to Four, and from Four to Three. This makes them easier to obtain over time.
Unfortunately, these Series Drops now occur less often than before. Only two drops are scheduled for this year. The next Series Drop, set for the beginning of December, has the community in an uproar.
The update will see just three cards dropping from Series Four to Three and nine cards from Series Five to Four. Many players feel that the selected cards are not meta-defining or particularly useful in the current meta. This has led to widespread dissatisfaction.
“Sure, but this drop is so tone deaf it’s insulting to your player base,” lamented one player. “Good job dropping the ball again.”
This sentiment echoes previous criticisms of similar updates. “Guys, this is terrible,” another player commented.
“PLEASE do better.”
Even top players and content creators with thousands of dollars invested into the game are voicing their annoyance. Influencer Jeff Hoogland expressed his frustration, and Cozy Gamer shared a meme depicting their disappointment. Streamer DeraJN echoed these concerns in a recent discussion: “I have been hoping all year a big change was coming and were teased in the roadmap and told recently there’s more coming, but I can’t help but feel it’ll be more of the same.
Again, I hope I’m wrong and things turn around for the game. I love Marvel Snap and want it to succeed.”
With such a universal response of disappointment, it’s likely that the game’s developers at Second Dinner will need to reevaluate how Series Drops work if they hope to retain their player base. “Wow… just wow,” another Snap gamer remarked.
“Really shows how out of touch [Second Dinner] is with the player base that people thought this was a parody post before it officially dropped. Love the game and wish SD would listen and learn from player feedback. I hope the reaction to this shows you what players want.”
The next Marvel Snap Series Drop is currently scheduled for Dec.
10. Fenris Wolf is the latest addition to Marvel Snap, bringing a powerful and strategic ability to the game. As a new Activate card, Fenris Wolf can resurrect the highest-Power enemy card that has been discarded or destroyed.
This makes it a versatile asset against both discard and destroy archetypes. To maximize Fenris Wolf’s potential, pair it with an aggressive Mill lineup. The suggested deck includes Fenris Wolf, Yondu, and Moon Knight.
It can be complemented by cards like Gladiator, Frigga, Scorn, Gambit, Swarm, Cannonball, Stature, Shang-Chi, and Proxima Midnight. This combination leverages both discard and resurrect mechanics. It creates a deck that can disrupt opponents while gaining significant power on the board.
It’s best to activate Fenris as soon as you’ve discarded or destroyed an opponent’s big card.
Marvel Snap card drop concerns
This leaves them minimal time to counter.
Ensure Fenris’s lane has space for at least two other cards – one for the resurrected enemy card and one to add extra power if needed. Save some discard or destroy actions for the late game to maximize the chances of hitting a significant enemy card. While Fenris Wolf doesn’t have direct counters like Cosmo, you can include cards like Shang-Chi, Shadow King, and Armor in your deck to disrupt their strategy.
Shang-Chi can eliminate high-Power cards, Shadow King can reduce Power boosts, and Armor can protect your cards from being destroyed. Fenris Wolf stands out as a top-tier Activate character in the current Marvel Snap metagame. Even though discard and destroy strategies aren’t as popular now, Fenris Wolf’s aggressive playstyle keeps it relevant.
However, with many exciting cards on the horizon, it might be wise to hold onto your resources and save up for upcoming releases. As we head into the final battles of the War of the Nine Realms in Marvel SNAP, there is only one week left in the season! Second Dinner is pulling out all the stops to close out this war. They are bringing back Deadpool’s Diner, announcing groundbreaking news about card series drops, and potentially releasing one of the strongest 6-Cost cards the game has ever seen.
Fenris Wolf was among the most hyped cards this season. Early mill decks featuring Fenris Wolf began strong but quickly declined. The card appears to be most effective when paired with one or two enablers, incorporated as a “package” into various deck strategies.
Decks like Moon Knight/Black Bolt/Stature have significantly increased their win rates with this addition. Any deck already running Moon Knight, Shang-Chi, or Gladiator has seen some benefit from integrating Fenris Wolf. Similar to Malekith, Fenris Wolf’s ability to put another card into play for free means it’s nearly always performing above its weight class as a 2-Cost card.
However, apart from the Moon Knight decks and especially the Black Bolt/Stature version, Fenris Wolf hasn’t noticeably increased many decks’ stats. Competing with other recent releases like Malekith or Anti-Venom, the card doesn’t stand out as much. Fenris Wolf’s unique design means it may pop up as a major player again, particularly as players become more familiar with its mechanics.
Collectors and long-term strategists may want to add Fenris Wolf to their collections, but those looking to climb the ranks can skip it. Last Thursday marked the return of Marvel SNAP’s first limited-time mode, Deadpool’s Diner. Despite minimal changes from its original run, the mode remains high-stakes with slight variations in rewards.
The key change is the inclusion of King Eitri as the milestone reward, a Series 4 card, compared to Cassandra Nova’s Series 5 rarity from the previous run. Second Dinner also released info on the upcoming December Series Drops. This Series Drop event will arrive with the December 10th patch, moving Jean Grey, Kitty Pryde, and Snowguard to Series 3, and Beta Ray Bill, Grandmaster, Iron Lad, Phastos, Pixie, Sasquatch, Supergiant, Valentina, and X-23 to Series 4.
The future of Marvel SNAP feels uncertain at this critical juncture. Deadpool’s Diner has been met with some discontent, and the recent Series Drops contain cards that are largely seen as non-meta or subpar. Concerns about long-term interest and the game’s card acquisition economy are growing within the community.
The introduction of Pokemon Pocket, a new TCG with significant brand recognition, adds another layer of competition. Second Dinner tends to stay focused on their community, acknowledging existing issues but struggling to meaningfully address them. There is a desire for more sweeping changes to the card acquisition system, especially as top meta decks continue to feature brand new Series 5 cards predominantly.
Looking ahead, the release of Gorr, the God Butcher is set to complete the War of the Nine Realms season. Will he live up to the hype? How will these Series Drops impact the metagame?
And what should Second Dinner do to enhance player experience?
