Marut Drones, a Hyderabad-based drone technology company, has secured $6.2 million in Series A funding from Lok Capital. The company plans to use the funds to develop advanced agricultural drones, expand its channel partner network and service centers into Tier 2-3 cities, and establish drone agriculture service hubs offering Drone-as-a-Service. Prem Kumar Vislawath, CEO and Co-Founder of Marut Drones, said, “The fresh capital will also allow us to make investments in building our team, increasing our manufacturing capacity to 3000 drones per annum, and marketing to continue scaling at a rapid pace to reach a revenue target of Rs.1000 crore in the next five years.”
Marut Drones aims to recruit professionals across all verticals, foster drone entrepreneurship, and launch 17 new drone academies to train skilled professionals.
The company also intends to enhance its research and development efforts in partnership with leading institutions. Hari Krishnan, Director of Lok Capital, highlighted the benefits of drones in agriculture, stating, “Drones for agriculture are a novel technology that can secure crops, save water, preserve soil health, avoid exposure to chemicals, increase yield for farmers and provide income to village-level entrepreneurs.”
Founded in 2019 by Prem Kumar Vislawath, Suraj Peddi, and Sai Kumar Chinthala, Marut Drones holds DGCA certification for both manufacturing and training.
Marut Drones expands with new funding
The company aims to establish a pan-India presence and play a pivotal role in modernizing agriculture across diverse geographies. Currently, Marut Drones has a fleet of 750 drones and over 1,000 drone pilots operating across 14 states in India. The company is also exploring the use of drones for the delivery of vaccinations, medical supplies, and other goods beyond the agricultural sector.
The Indian drone sector is anticipated to grow significantly in the coming years, with the Civil Aviation Ministry predicting it will expand to Rs 120-150 billion by 2026. This funding round positions Marut Dronetech to further solidify its presence in the burgeoning Indian drone industry and spearhead innovative applications in agriculture and beyond.
