Luftgekühlt, an exhibition devoted to air-cooled Porsches, celebrated its 10th edition on October 5 at the backlot of Universal Studios Hollywood. The event, founded by Patrick Long, a multiple winner at Le Mans and creative director Howie Idelson, has grown exponentially over the years. “This was by far the best spirit and energy I have felt from any show we have produced,” says Long.

The collection featured 400 cars spanning five decades, set against movie-set backdrops. Actor and racer Patrick Dempsey, who attended the inaugural event in 2014, praised the sense of community and the event’s growth. “It’s a family, it really is,” said Dempsey.

Standout vehicles included a 1986 Porsche 911 Targa Hybrid, a tribute to a Polaroid-inspired Porsche created by B+B Auto Exklusive Service. The car features a 550 hp hybrid powertrain and a glass targa roof. The 1985 Porsche 962C, designed for endurance racing, was also on display.

Luftgekühlt highlights and standout moments

The car featured a 3.0-liter six-cylinder Boxer biturbo engine generating about 690 hp. A 1973 Porsche Carrera RSR R7, one of only eight original Porsche works examples, highlighted the historical significance of Porsche’s racing exploits.

The car recently sold through Bonhams for approximately $4 million. Singer Vehicle Design showcased a stunning Porsche 930 Turbo restoration, bodied in carbon fiber and painted in Viola Metallic. The car makes 550 hp from its twin-turbo flat-six engine.

The iconic 1971 Porsche 917 K, which secured Porsche’s first outright win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970, was on loan from the Miles Collier Collections at Florida’s Revs Institute. The car represents the pinnacle of Porsche’s racing legacy. Luftgekühlt’s 10th edition celebrated air-cooled Porsches and the community and passion they inspire.

Each car at the event told a story of innovation, performance, and timeless design.
