It’s common knowledge that Londoners have little privacy- CCTV cameras are everywhere, celebrities are photographed with long-range lenses pointed toward their homes, and the media are never afraid to do a little digging into anyone’s life. London Profiler does not infringe on an individual’s privacy, but the site makes available neighborhood-specific demographic information.
It is cleverly superimposed over a Google map, and users can see how many heart attacks occurred in Kensington, how many people still live with their parents in Brixton, and the percentage of Bangladeshis that live off of Brick Lane. Now that’s putting information to use for the average citizen.
Londonprofiler.org In Their Own Words
“Welcome to the London Profiler website! Here you can visualise your neighbourhood’s profile using different area classifications through the Google Map interface.”
Why Londonprofiler.org It Might Be A Killer
Two things particularly stand out when using London Profiler- superimposing the information over a map makes it more relevant and personal, and the data categories that they choose to include (percentage of internet illiterate, people living with their parents) is definitely interesting. At the very least, London Profiler is a good time waster, at best, it is a cool function to view very specific demographic information in your neighborhood.
