Labspaces was designed as a social network for the scientific community. It has many of the features one would typically find on other social networks with the important additions of a comprehensive collection of the latest science news, a protocol database, lab profiles, and a publication database.
Users can use Labspaces to create or maintain friendships in the sciences, discuss the latest science news, or get advice for troubleshooting problems in lab. The site is not only a web profile for researchers, it’s a community for active communication in the sciences.
Labspaces.net In Their Own Words
Social networks such as Facebook and MySpace have become increasingly popular with students over the past few years; however, their utility has been underappreciated by other communities. An Iowa graduate student in Molecular and Cellular Biology is looking to change that view in the scientific community with Labspaces.net. Labspaces is the original social network for the sciences developed over the summer of 2006, and provides a place for researchers from diverse fields to interact and exchange ideas on-line. Labspaces was designed to be a scientific hub. It hosts over 40 news articles a day from various research institutions and links to another 10 to 20 from the mainstream media. It also allows users to write their own blogs, interact in the forum, or comment directly on news articles. In addition, Labspaces has many of the features found on MySpace of Facebook.
Why Labspaces.net It Might Be A Killer
There are many science based websites that host a forum, blogs, or protocols, but no site brings all of these features together in one place. Labspaces does this and more by providing users with a place on the web to interact with other scientists.
