Jan Svoboda Talks About Online Scheduling With Bookappo

There are plenty of calendar services to help you keep track of where you’re supposed to be and what you’re supposed to be doing in today’s hectic, fast-paced world, but what about all of the other people that are supposed to be there with you? Scheduling stuff online can be a ridiculous volley of emails and a Facebook invite just isn’t quite, um, professional.

The team over at Bookappo has come up with a solution for regulating your crazy schedule. Offering online scheduling that can be accessed by your clients and your staff, no matter what your business is. Clients can make appointments, you can manage your and your staff’s schedules and it’s even customizable. Suddenly, you day seems to have gotten a lot less complicated

Co-founder Jan Svoboda spoke with KillerStartups about Bookappo and where they’re headed next…

How’d you come up with the name for your company?

Bookappo is a shortcut for “Book appointment.” We wanted a short name, easy to remember, that describes our service the best.

What’s the very first thing you do at work everyday?

Open windows to get some fresh air, start my laptop and coffee machine at the same time.

How many people did you start the company with and how many people work for you now?

We started with two people, nowadays we are four.

How do you handle frustration? When/how was the last time you dealt with frustration?

We always try to think positively and we are a very good team. There is no place for words like “impossible, crisis or we cannot” in our vocabulary. Of course we are aware of the risks, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

What’s your office environment like? Is it the kind of place where everyone is bumpin’ away to house music or is it more traditional?

Our office is more traditional, everyone has enough space but at the same time we are making sure to be able to easily communicate across the room.

How do you picture your company in 5 years?

Actually, we are more focused on shorter terms. By the end of this year we would like to spread also into the non-English speaking countries, so nowadays we are working on Spanish, German and Czech language localizations.

Who or what inspires YOU? Role models? Quotes? Running? Video games? Snack food? Give us the deets, dude!

There is a nice quote from Louis Armstrong – “Life is like a trumpet – if you don’t put anything into it, you don’t get anything out of it.” A couple of months ago I also saw a great documentary movie “Senna“. I recommend it, if you have not seen yet.

How’d you fund this venture? VC? Self-funding? Crowd-funded? Where’d you get the money, man?

We are self-funded. We already have a similar project in Czech republicsmsDiary  which is profitable.

Got any great bootstrapping tips for the lean startups out there?

If you have any idea, do not only talk about it, just do it.

What would you be doing if you had one year off and $500,000 to spend (and you couldn’t spend it on your currently startup / projects)

I am not sure if this amount is enough. I would probably travel a lot and I wouldn’t be afraid to spend all the money for it.

Do you consider yourself a successful entrepreneur right now? If not, what’s it gonna take to make you feel successful?

You should ask this question to someone else. I am not to judge myself.

For sure, I will feel successful, when I reach a complete independence – meaning, I can do anything anytime without any limits.

Mobile App you’re in love with and why?

SoundHound – helped me many times. Always, when I hear a good music and do not know the interpret – I get the information in half a minute.

Dogs or cats?

Both.

iOS or Android?

iOS.

What’s the greatest thing about your company/website/idea?

We are bringing the mix of the latest technology, great user interface design, easy-to-use application plus we save the money of our clients and help them grow their businesses.
