If you’re a bit like me, the first thing you do when listening to music from a country that is completely new to you is to listen to even more music from that region. I think that’s a completely natural thing to do, getting to know a regional scene one has just learned of before labeling any individual artist as “good”, “bad” or whatever tag it is you tend to apply to music. And that’s not hard to do at a time in which every performing artist has got a MySpace or Facebook profile where you can listen to his songs online. Yet, a web tool like Jammap simplifies things as much as possible.
In essence, Jammap is a music app that enables people to listen to songs country by country. Users of Jammap can access licensed creative commons music from Jamendo just by choosing the country they’re interested in from an interactive map. They just click on the country they want to know more about for a list to scroll up, showcasing the finest songs from local artists. Another click will let them start having the songs played, and by using a simple interface they’ll be able to stop/pause anything they’re listening to, and skip from one song to another.
It’s all done right on the browser, nothing has to be paid, and users aren’t even requested to sign up. Jammap asks for permission to retrieve one’s location when using it, but that’s basically it.
