This three member startup is interested in taking risks and following what they know best which is offering a solid product and while providing a specific knowledge online for those hungry to learn.
We had a chance to speak to product manager Sailesh Chaudhary about cloud learning on LearnOnCloud recently and here’s what he shared with us:
How’d you come up with the name for your company?
LearnOnCloud seemed like an obvious name that would immediately suggest what the platform is all about. The name represents that the user can learn at anytime, anywhere, at their own pace and place on cloud.
What’s the very first thing you do at work everyday?
The first thing in the morning for us is to check the user feedback and analytics. As we are in the growth phase we break one record every day. We very much enjoy reaching our goals!
How many people did you start the company with and how many people work for you now?
The initiative is a part of HCL Infosystems LTD, and this was started with a team of 3 passionate members. We are continuing with the same work force now.
Remember the early days starting up? Maybe you can share one anecdote that describe the struggle you went through?
The struggle was to convince all the stakeholders that students in a developing country would be able to learn online and benefit from technology.
How do you handle frustration? When/how was the last time you dealt with frustration?
The struggle and frustration has always been about convincing potential customers and partners about the viability and efficacy of our solutions. Dealing in the education space (still conservative in India), most are skeptical about how an eLearning platform (albeit a differentiated one) can work! Notwithstanding synchronous delivery over the web. But the good news is that we’ve been able to change mindsets!
What’s your office environment like?
More traditional, no bumping away to house music, ha.
How do you picture your company in 5 years?
I picture it as having a large customer base and also that we will be counted as one of the leading companies that uses technology to provide accessible and affordable education across the world.
Who or what inspires you?
The greatest risk in life is not taking any risk at all! Oh, and I am a foodie so great eats!
How’d you fund this venture?
It’s company-funded. This is a business vertical and to keep generating revenue we do a lot of other skill enhancement activities.
What would you be doing if you had one year off and $500,000 to spend?
Invest in and actively work with a social start-up (education, cleantech, rural finance, etc).
Do you consider yourself a successful entrepreneur right now?
No way! I need to be able to impact the lives of scores of people, for years to come. Leave a legacy, if you know what I mean.
Website you couldn’t live without and why?
Google! Information at your fingertips.
Dogs or cats?
Dogs
iOS or Android?
Number 1 country you’ve always wanted to visit but haven’t yet?
New Zealand
What’s the greatest thing about your company?
Affordable and accessible education that helps students succeed. The approach is to provide a compelling solution that covers education, training and placement.
