India now has more than 1.59 lakh recognized startups, making it the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world. Startups have flourished in areas like fintech, edtech, health tech, and e-commerce. They have also created over 16.6 lakh direct jobs.

The number of women entrepreneurs has increased, with 48 percent of startups having at least one woman director. India is home to over 100 unicorns valued at Rs 30 lakh crore.
The country led the world with 332 IPOs in 2024. However, some opposition leaders have criticized the government’s claims.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said only a small percentage of startups have received government funding or tax relief.
