Keep It In Perspective – Tips On How To Deal With Stress At Work When The Goin’ Gets Rough

Sometimes we think our jobs are simply terrible and because we end up getting caught up in negativity, we quit. Then, we move on to the next job and then somehow we end up falling into a rut and again it seems like the job we thought was  good, actually turns out to be a bad one. So we quit, and before we know it, we’ve realized it’s just a cycle we’re gotten ourselves into. If this is the case with you, maybe you should look internally instead of always placing the blame on the job itself.

Of course, we’ve all been in work situations where we don’t get along with our boss, or we have a coworker that we can’t seem to find common ground with, or we just don’t feel that we’re getting paid a fairly for the duties we’re performing for the company. These are legitimate instances that happen to all of us but it’s still a job and that’s why it’s called as such.

There are times when yes, in fact, it’s time to find greener pastures and quit a job. However, if you find yourself in another rut, there are some basic adjustments you can make that could help you deal better with the common low points of some jobs.

It’s important to learn how to deal with stress at work. Regardless of whether you’re the founder of your own company, a freelance writer or graphic designer working from home, or still working a 9-to-5 rat race job dreaming of the day you’ll start your own company. Learning to handle stress isn’t just important for your success at work, it’s also important for your sanity, your health and your overall well-being.

So What Can I Do?

Well, the first thing is resist getting involved in gossip. It’s easy to do but instead of introducing those kinds of conversations, try and concentrate on some positive traits about what’s going on and the people around you. If you’ve got a negative co-worker who is complaining all the time, just try and remain objective and when needed, just change the subject.

Also, instead of concentrating on all the negative elements of the job, concentrate on the upside. Maybe it’s just where you need to be right now before you make your next professional move. What are the perks of your job?

Keep that in perspective and use that as motivation to do your best work. If you can stay positive and continue to produce good work, you can still get a recommendation if needed. Besides, no matter how much work you think you have to do, your boss is doing more and keeping his cool about it. So, just relax

Further, remember that your job shouldn’t be all that you’re concentrating on in your life. That would be a drag for anyone. If you don’t have one already, find a new hobby outside of work to concentrate some of your energy on or start exercising already so you can start training for that run you always knew you could finish. If you’re in a relationship, don’t let the negative aspects of your job poison the good you have going in the other person. Your partner is there to support you.

Ok, So What Else?

During your workday, remember to take a small break. You may feel like there’s too much to do already but if you just get up and grab some water or walk outside instead of surfing online, you’ll start to feel better. You can’t just sit like a machine all day doing a job and then expect to feel ok.

Also, use your vacation days. Even it means just getting outside during vacation to do some hiking or sightseeing, take those vacation days. Time away from work will help you recharge a bit. Besides, you earned the vacation.

These are just a few tips to keep in mind in order to be a bit more productive and ensure that you can get through your job. We’ve all had jobs that aren’t exactly our passion but that’s ok. A job is a job and if you start training yourself now to be productive, then you just might one day motivate yourself to launch that startup.

A healthy startup starts with healthy habits. Founders are disciplined and hard working individuals who are doing their best to stay positive. They know the highs will be high and that the lows will be really low, but life is that way anyway right?

Work in ways to get some perspective and learn how to deal with stress at work as soon as possible, otherwise you’re likely to lead yourself down an unproductive and unhappy path.
