Gravity.com – A New Social Networking Alternative

Gravity.comGravity is a service that was in closed beta until yesterday, and now that it has opened to the public at large the time is ripe for reviewing it. We could say that it is a social networking site in which the emphasis is wholly placed on making new acquaintances, rather than inviting your already existing friends as you would do on sites like Facebook.

In order to do so, users can create “worlds” (IE, topics) that others can follow (or “orbit” in the site’s parlance). When others start orbiting around any conversation that you either created or joined you will be notified. The idea is that bonds will be built around these interests that you share with other site users.

In a certain way, the site falls somewhere in between a forum and a user group that is actually open to everybody, and that can deal with topics of every kind. Of course, since the site is so wide you have to talk about things that have a broad appeal. If not, you might end up talking to yourself.

Gravity.com In Their Own Words

“Gravity connects people with shared interests and helps them engage in meaningful and fun conversations. While social networks are great for connecting you with people you already know, Gravity connects you with people you should know and should be talking to because they share your passions.”

Why Gravity.com It Might Be A Killer

While you couldn’t say that it is “better” or “worse” than Facebook, the site certainly makes for a different social experience. And finding specific knowledge is done very easily through it.
