Google is rolling out Pixel Camera 9.8. The rollout will take some time before it reaches all users. Version 9.8 of Pixel Camera is available today, featuring a newer build 9.8.102.73. This update is smaller than the one released in December.
Pixel Camera 9.8 introduces a “Turn on animation for Astrophotography” toggle in Settings > Advanced, which is enabled by default. This release also clarifies that the Palm timer “raise your hand” feature works with the rear camera. For Pixel Fold users, Dual Screen Preview is now available when recording video.
The “Add Me” feature on the 9 Pro Fold can appear on the external display. For Pixel 9 Series users (Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold), the remote Connected Cameras capability can now be used. This allows for seamless capture or live streaming with supported remote camera applications.
It includes the Pixel 6+ and GoPro 10 and later models.
New Pixel Camera 9.8 features
Supported apps for this feature include YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok.
To enable Connected Cameras, ensure your app is updated. Go to Settings > Connected devices > Connected preferences > Connected Cameras to enable the feature. The Camera Picker will appear as a floating pill-shaped container when using a compatible application.
This allows users to add, remove, or disconnect a remote camera and switch between their device and a remote camera. You can only connect to devices signed in with your Google Account, and only one remote camera can be connected at a time.
To connect to another, the first remote camera must be disconnected. Audio will be sourced from the camera currently in use. Using a Bluetooth audio source may degrade streaming quality.
Pixel Camera 9.8 is rolling out now for users.
