The Google Pixel 9a is generating buzz with newly leaked renders revealing a notable design change. The images, provided by Android Headlines and created by Steve Hemmerstoffer (OnLeaks), show the upcoming budget-friendly phone has done away with the edge-to-edge silver camera bar seen on its predecessor, the Pixel 8a. Instead, the Pixel 9a opts for a simpler horizontal camera layout, with the cameras appearing more flush with the phone’s body.

This design is reminiscent of the flagship Pixel 9, featuring an ultrawide lens and a main sensor. While the bezels on the Pixel 9a appear relatively thick, this is not entirely unexpected for a budget phone. It remains unclear if the bezels are the same size or smaller compared to the Pixel 8a.

Pixel 9a design shift detailed

Details on the Pixel 9a’s specs are limited, but it has been tipped that the device will use the same processor as the Pixel 9. However, it might not feature the Samsung Exynos 5400 modem.

Interestingly, the Pixel 9a is set to be one of the first Pixel devices to launch with the new Android operating system, expected to go live on October 15. This deviates from Google’s traditional spring launch for its A-line, with the Pixel 8a being announced on May 7. As anticipation builds for the Pixel 9a, more updates are expected to surface in the coming months.

The leaked renders provide an exciting glimpse into Google’s upcoming offering in the mid-range smartphone market.
