Google has announced updates to its Pixel Camera for the Pixel 6, 7 Pro, and Pixel Fold smartphones, aiming to simplify and streamline the process of taking high-quality images. The updates include improved Night Sight and face unblurring technology, as well as motion blur reduction. Specifically, the Pixel Fold will feature a versatile multi-panel display adapted for smartphone photography, while the Pixel 6 and 7 Pro will also see enhanced camera functionality for improved photo and video quality.

Further updates will include new camera lens options – “UW,” “W,” and “T”, which stands for ultra-wide, wide, and telephoto, respectively. These options will provide users with more flexibility and creative potential in their photography. The ultra-wide lens is great for capturing wide landscapes, the wide lens is a versatile tool suitable for various photo opportunities, and the telephoto lens offers quality zoomed images without a loss in clarity and detail.

The HDR+ function, designed to capture top-quality images by identifying prime moments from a series of photos, is also receiving an upgrade.

Improving camera functionality in Pixel smartphones

This feature optimizes light and detail in your images, resulting in vibrant, high-quality photographs.

These improvements were launched in response to user feedback and is part of the June Pixel Feature Drop. Google plans to further refine user experience with features like the Protected Folder in Google Photos and the Heads-Up tool in Digital Well-being.

However, these camera feature upgrades are being phased in gradually. The latest Pixel Camera update does not guarantee immediate access to the new feature set, which will be made available with the June Pixel Feature Drop. The rollout timeline is yet to be determined and may vary by device model and region.

An additional feature of the update is the “Pro” settings tab, giving users instant access to detailed camera settings, including manual lens selection and choice between RAW and JPEG image settings.

In summary, the update is expected to enhance the photography experience for Pixel users, particularly throughout the summer when camera usage is at its peak. Not only will the new features result in better-quality photos, but they are also designed to be user-friendly for individuals at any skill level. Further updates are also expected, reinforcing Google’s commitment to continuously improving user experience.
