Give Earth a Hand aims to create a social network of environmentalists while also raising money for worthwhile environmental causes. Started by one guy in Germany who is determined to help change the world, the site asks you to donate at least 2 Euros to nonprofit organizations as part of your registration on the site.
The site offers the usual social networking tools, such as blogging, forums, and personal profiles…but the added twist of making a difference and saving the planet make this site noteworthy. The site also offers more in depth information and analysis of environmental problems and solutions – hoping to educate and inspire. Given that there is only one person creating and managing this site, it is hard not to be impressed and hopeful that the site gains momentum and membership.
GiveEarthaHand.com In Their Own Words
‘Give Earth a Hand’ will allow me to create a network of people around the world to help support projects aiming at fighting global warming and the general
ecological downfall happening on our planet.
Raise public awareness about global warming and general ecological problems, create an online social community network in which everyone can get involved in learning about what is happening to our planet, inform themselves about international projects and organisations working against global warming.
At the same time I wanted to be able to do actually raise money for funding projects while being able to work on organising this site, creating promotional activities and getting the word out to the press and the web community continuously about what this website is getting done. The wealth of non-profit organisations supporting projects will allow for this community to choose great projects to support.
Why GiveEarthaHand.com It Might Be A Killer
Global warming is making environmentalists out of almost all of us (US President and administration excluded, of course). This site combines the powerful tool of social networking with the noble pursuit of doing good, which is a refreshing twist on the networking genre. And, given the innate interest of people to do good, I believe this site has great potential to build an audience worldwide.
Some Questions About GiveEarthaHand.com
How can this site reach a broader audience? Has the creator sought out partnerships with NGOs or government entities to increase readership? If this site can partner with a large organization like Greenpeace or Sierra Club, it could create a large social network and really build a movement.
