Are you aware what happens if you begin translating back and forth and back and forth from one languages to the other? If you don’t, then this site will show you. The source text and the translated result become two completely different things.
Nobody would guess that one was once the direct equivalent of the other. The results can be downright amusing.
And Funny Translator takes that one step beyond by automatically translating a text over 50 times, and mixing languages in the process. For example, you can submit a text into English and it will be translated into German, and then into Portuguese, and then into English again… this goes on and on over 50 times.
The results are absolutely hilarious. Some of the examples that I came across on the homepage: one that went “To be, or not to be. That is the question” became “My problem is the problem”. Another: “My mamma told me, don’t ever fool around” turned into “Mothers of color”. And the best? The one that read “If you go down to the woods today you’re in for a very big surprise” became “Well, Tiger Woods is not surprising”. Linguists will have a lot to explain and analyze here. The rest will just have a good couple of laughs.
FunnyTranslator.com In Their Own Words
“Funny Translator is a collection of user submitted translations from our Funny Translator tool. Users enter text in English into Funny Translator and the program then translates the the text into a foreign language and back to English using Google Translator. It then repeats this process up to 56 more times with different languages. By the end of the process the final English text is often completely different then the original entered. Think of Bad Translator as a hi-tech game of telephone.”
