There is a wealth of freeware available online for just about any type of application imaginable but up until now, it has been difficult to sort through it all and find the best programs available. Currently in beta, Freewaremarks is the first user-generated freeware list that aims to become THE site where people go to find useful software and read what others have written about it.
Anyone can register and start posting their favorite freeware along with their comments and anyone else can add a comment to the posting allowing for constantly updated opinions. People’s posts can be rated by others and users receive a point each time they post a new piece of freeware. If you want to get this information even quicker, RSS feeds are supported.
Freewaremarks.com In Their Own Words
“FreewareMarks.com allows you to keep a social list of freeware/open source software you use, and see/rate other people’s posts (The site also supports RSS feeds). After you sign up, you can add programs (link to the homepage, description, screenshot) to the public list, and browse/rate freeware/open source applications submitted by others. You can view anyone else’s posts, and they can view yours. You can add users to your buddy list, and easily track theirs favorite applications. You earn a point for every freeware application you submit.”
Why Freewaremarks.com It Might Be A Killer
By allowing users themselves to post their favorite freeware, the database should grow quickly. Giving users a rating will also help to ensure that the site remains impartial and becomes a credible source for all of the available freeware out there.
Some Questions About Freewaremarks.com
User ratings are determined by the number of contributions they have made. Perhaps they should consider changing the way that ratings are determined because the current manner will do little to stop people from posting favorable opinions about freeware that they have a vested interest in.
