Flowww is a browser-in-a-browser for tech news. The flash based site gives you a visual abridgement of the day’s daily tech scoops.
The round up consists of 24 pages pulled from the web’s top 100 tech blogs and aggregation sites. Users basically flip through the pages as if they were a virtual newspaper. The concept is to make getting the latest updates easier by simply cutting down on all the noise and focusing on the top stories in a visually appealing manner. You’ll find Flickr photos thrown in amidst stories from the NYT’s tech section, reviews from TechCrunch, Twitter blog updates, Silicon Alley Insider pieces and more. You will be able to bring in your own feeds, but currently, there’s not much customization you can do.
Flowww.com In Their Own Words
“Flowww consolidates and simplifies the daily tech news”
Why Flowww.com It Might Be A Killer
Flowww is aesthetically pleasing. It does give you a sense of flipping through a magazine, which has an appeal in its own right. You get the latest news without having to dig for it on the web. It does make things simple, especially for those who aren’t interested in feeds and aggregators.
Some Questions About Flowww.com
This might work better if it weren’t focused on tech news—those interested in tech wouldn’t want something so limited. The app is simply too slow—it takes ages to load, and makes your computer slow in turn. You can’t select the order in which things appear. The way stories are selected (algorithm) and organized is a bit of a mystery.
