Fieldtrip.com is the homepage for an educational project called “Are We There Yet?” This project is a guide written to solve a specific problem: where can a teacher or camp counselor take a group of kids for an entertaining, yet rewarding experience? There was no guide that catered to groups, and existing guides to places of interest had a touristy flavor that did not adequately convey the educational value of the places they were describing.
This explains why it has been so successful in educational circles. The first book featured places of interest in and around New York, to a radius of about 60 miles. The author went to great lengths to include the smaller museums, historic sites and nature centers that many people had never heard of. The natural evolution from printed guides was the Internet. Here users can freely access information about hundreds and hundreds of great places to visit and things to do. Since 1996, “Are We There Yet?” invites visitors to join them.
