EPI was established in 1986 to broaden the discussion about economic policy to include the interests of low and middle-income workers. Because they think that is crucial that people who work for a living have a voice in the economic debate. It was founded by a group of economic policy experts, and it was the first organization to focus on this matter. They conduct original research on economic issues, make policy recommendations based on its findings, and disseminate their word to the appropriate audiences. Their research focuses in different areas such as living standards, government and economy, globalization and trade, and education. The Economic Policy Institute is a nonprofit, non-partisan think tank that seeks to broaden the public debate about strategies to achieve a prosperous and fair economy.
