Today’s Killer Startup: Day One

Elevator Pitch
Day One is a journaling app for iOS.
Why We Love It
I was an avid journal-keeper as a kid and teenager. Somewhere in my parents’ house is a box full of all my innermost thoughts, doodles, and embarrassing attempts at poetry. When I went to college I stopped journaling, but I’m seriously considering getting to it again, with Day One.
Day One is a journal for 2016, which not only lets you record your deepest thoughts but also lets you keep track of, well, anything. Whether you’re trying to stick to a fitness challenge, clear out your thoughts, or just want to stay in the habit of writing regularly, Day One is the journaling app for you. It syncs across all of your iOS devices, making it easy to access no matter which one you’re on.
Now, I understand that there may be some old-school journal lovers amongst you — and I totally get that. There’s definitely something magical about actually putting pen to paper that can be hard to replace with a digital journal. And while you can’t doodle in Day One, you can do a bunch of other things that you could never do with your Moleskine. For example, Day One supports Markdown, for easy formatting; locks with a passcode (take that, sneaking little brothers!); lets you add images; geotags your journal entries; notes your location and even the weather when you’re journaling. You can also include the status of whatever activity you’re doing, and you can export the whole thing to text or PDF, if you wanted to print it out and get a physical copy, for example.
In short, Day One is a journaling app for the kind of adult who loved to keep journals as a kid but just doesn’t have the time to sit and ponder “deep” thoughts anymore. Oh, and they also just released a 2.0 version, which means you get even more bang for your buck. Download it for a one time fee of $29.99. You won’t regret it.
