Don’t get your hopes up: the vintage logo in the title is the only innovative design bit to this site, as the rest is just as plain and predictable as the myriad of sites for the myriad of local news outlets. Covering the standard areas for a small town, you’ll be able to find out about local sports, weather, business and community events by taking a look around.
Though Claremore Progress is a daily paper, the site is not so much the digital version of the paper as a mashup of news aggregated from other media in video and image format; of course you can read some parts of the newspaper (both information and opinion articles) online and watch videos covering the local news, but that’s only a marginal aspect of the site. If you belong to the happy few who feel comfortable with the ePaper format, you’ll be happy to know that you can read the entire issues of the newspaper on the site for free, without having to register. The Claremore Progress has been published for over a century, and users can search the archives online, but inexplicably they don’t mention which years are available.
