Available on the App Store for free, Chumkee takes something as tried and tested as media sharing, and puts a true social point on it all. This new application isn’t just about sharing your photos and videos with your close friends only. No, Chumkee is here for the public sharing of media. If you get this app, you can share your photographs and videos with everybody. And you’re going to do it in an environment that’s clearly inspired by Twitter, as anything you share can be commented, replied and forwarded. Yet, Chumkee comes with a very original interface that replaces Twitter’s timeline with a pile of photos that you can drag and drop across the screen, in order to focus on what those you’re really close to are sharing. And as far as videos are concerned, these are represented by live thumbnails.
Such a visual interface feels only natural for a site where everything revolves around sharing media, and I wouldn’t be surprised if other photo sharing services begin following suit. Granted, it’s not the kind of interface that would let you consume a heap of media at a glance, but using it feels second-nature and (more importantly) tons of fun. And (just in case) you can switch to a tiled layout, and go about things the usual way.
